According to a news report from the Times of India, the anti-narcotics division of the New Delhi police force has busted a Nigerian drug racket that smuggles heroine to the Indian capital from Kandahar in Afghanistan, through Pakistan and Kashmir.
The gang then re-packages the drugs and sends it through post to Nigeria, from where it is then transported through various West African states by rail to Europe.
Concise description of the cartel's activities were revealed by two Nigerians who were arrested for allegedly possessing 1.2kg heroin worth around $2 million. “The duo had concealed the heroin inside the seats of children's bicycles and were planning to send it through the postal parcel service,” said Ashok Chand, a Deputy Commissioner of Police.
Nemesis caught up with Richard Nwafor (38) and Chris Chinonye (32) on Saturday as the duo attempted to dispatch their consignment to Nigeria. “There was a tip-off that two Nigerians would come to Gole Dakhana to book in parcels containing heroin for Nigeria. The seized heroin was concealed in 20 bicycle seats and kept in polythene pouches and, after being wrapped with carbon, was hidden between the upper portion of the seat and the sponge inside it,” said Chand.
Nwafor had a flourishing readymade garment outlet in Nigeria until he incurred huge losses in 2009 when his foreign counterparts from Dubai and China play a fast one on him. He relocated to India June this year. While is sidekick Chinonye came to Mumbai in 2008. Both allege that a certain Ikonne Livinus is the ringleader and financier of the deal.
