Without a doubt, The Headies is the most anticipated entertainment event of the year. Fans of the Nigerian music industry have eagerly awaited the nomination list to this year’s event. Over the years The Next Rated award category is one that has attracted immense attention. This is definitely one of, if not the most sought category at The Headies.
Owning the title of Next Rated is akin to being anointed king. This winner of this category is dubbed to be the “most promising act” under the year in review. The importance of this category cannot be over stressed as it signifies that amongst his/her peers this artiste is the one “most likely to succeed”. Past winners of this category have helped buttress the prophetic nature of the Next Rated category.
All prior winners of this award can today boast of superstar status and we dare say perhaps the prestige associated with winning this category may have helped. On the roll call of previous winners are; Skuki(2010) ), Omawumi Megbele(2009), Wande Coal(2008), Overdose(2007) and Asa(2006).
An added bonus to being crowned next rated is that the winner gets to drive home in a brand new car. The car prize is the organizers way of rewarding the winner for the promise they display.
